PrepayGuard support

Setup guidance, checkout checks, and help for installed merchants.

Get started

  1. Open PrepayGuard from the Apps section of Shopify admin.
  2. Complete setup if the app reports that its payment rule is not active.
  3. Confirm the displayed name of Cash on Delivery or another payment method in Shopify Admin → Settings → Payments.
  4. Add that exact name, or a carefully chosen matching alias, in PrepayGuard's payment-method settings.
  5. Mark the intended Shopify code discount as prepaid-only.
  6. Test the complete checkout sequence before using the rule live.

Expected checkout behavior

  • COD remains visible before a marked discount is applied.
  • Applying a marked discount hides only the configured payment method.
  • Online or other unconfigured payment methods remain available.
  • Removing the marked discount makes the hidden method visible again.
  • An unmarked discount does not change payment methods.

Troubleshooting

The payment method is still visible

  • Confirm the discount is a code discount and is currently active.
  • Confirm its prepaid-only switch is enabled in PrepayGuard.
  • Compare the checkout payment-method name with the configured name or alias, including local spelling and capitalization differences.
  • Check that the PrepayGuard payment rule reports a healthy status.
  • Start a fresh checkout session and apply the code again.

The payment method does not return

  • Remove the marked discount and wait for checkout to recalculate.
  • Confirm the method is still active and eligible in Shopify payment settings for the current checkout.
  • Refresh or begin a fresh checkout if Shopify has cached the step.

The app reports a setup problem

Follow the in-app recovery action to create or repair the payment rule. If the issue continues, include the shop domain, the time of the test, and a screenshot that contains no customer or payment information when contacting support.
